,A few Conventions ago, I met this AMAZING Cosplayer named Red Wolf! His costume was insanely brilliant! One of the best 'Joker Cosplays' I had ever seen. Not only was his costume genius, but he also was in full character. Not breaking for even an instant.
I know professional actors that can't even do that. Along with his partner in crime Ms. Aurora (dressed as Harley Quinn above), the two always reach new peaks with their costumes!
IMP- How did you get into cosplay?
RED WOLF- I've always loved wearing outfits for renaissance fairs and Parties. I personally hold lots of themed costume parties which I highly encourage my guests to come dressed up. I have always loved going to comic book conventions whether I had a spot in artist ally or not. With the rise of Cosplay, my Fiance and I decided to start trying to pull are skills and create are own versions of favorite characters to show off at Conventions.
IMP- How long have you been doing cosplay?
RED WOLF- I've always done some kind of costuming/ character play for parties and Halloween but didn't really start cosplay until 3 years ago.
IMP- What are some of the biggest challenges when it comes to cosplay?
RED WOLF- Well coming into Cosplay with no real background or knowledge in sewing, fabrication materials, or makeup. In just a short time I have self taught myself a lot and the cosplay community is one of the most friendly and helpful there is. Along with youtube videos. But the hardest thing is always deciding on which character do I want to dedicate the time, money, and patience on bringing to life.
IMP- What is your favorite cosplay?
RED WOLF- My Favorite cosplay has to be my Joker, its one of the first straight up characters I developed for Cons. Before with costume parties and Halloween I never really developed the need to be “in character”, but with the Joker It just pours out of me. The terrifying Clown Prince of crime has become so much fun to play, sometimes too much fun. I find myself missing being the character when I'm just out and about, HAHahHAha Oooooh... * cough * sorry don't know what come over me just then.
IMP- Tell me, do you do any charity work?
RED WOLF- I have not really had an opportunity to do any charity work with my characters yet, I am in the works with a group out of Pittsburgh trying to join the Heroes Alliance. My characters are mainly villains and anti-heroes so I tend to accidentally scare children. I do hand out pixie stix and laughy taffy when I do the Joker so the kids don't get too frightened when their parents want them to take a photo with me.
IMP- How many cons do you do a year?
RED WOLF- Since I just started, I progressively do more each year, this last year I did 5 but all of them exception of a festival are all in Pittsburgh.
IMP- What is your favorite con?
RED WOLF- My Favorite con has always been Wizard Comic Con, I went to the ones in Philly and Chicago from the ages of 16 to 22. I haven’t been able to travel for cons in quite some time so I was super excited that Wizard came to Pittsburgh this last year.
IMP- do you do other events beside cons? If so, what are they?
RED WOLF- I definitely do as many events as I can. Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival, Pittsburgh Zombie Fest, My Fiance and I went up to Fairy Fest for the first time this last year. Maggie's Farm does a Zombie event around October that the House of the Dead hooks me up with. Trundle Manor's Halloween Party.
I hold an annual Pirate Party the first weekend of October, and a viking party at the end of winter, as well as any Pirate, Zombie, or superhero party I hear about. I also coordinate groups to go and see movie premiers in costume like recently I had a group of around a dozen go watch the new Mad Max: Fury Road in costume. I honestly dont need much of a reason I love getting into costume and going out. Some times you can find me out at random Bars in Southside, E.liberty, Lawrenceville, and Downtown mostly as a Pirate but not limited to.
IMP- What advice would you give to someone just starting to cosplay?
RED WOLF- Have fun with it and ignore the haters, its a lot of hard work and stress especially if you are trying to work on a budget and time frames for upcoming cons, so when you finally got something you have to show off, do just that! Remember there is always room for improvement, I still find ways to refine and fine tune characters and costumes. And if someone tells you that you are not the right size, shape, gender, race, or that something isn't accurate just ignore them because they clearly have no idea what cosplay is about. Your Cosplay is your fandome of that character and your own personality should shine through as well. don't limit yourself to exact replication (unless that is what you are into then by all means).
IMP- What other aspects of geekdom do you enjoy?
RED WOLF- My geekdom stretches far. Zombies, Comics, Movies, Video Games, Folk Lore, Mythology, Lovecraft, MMA, Pirates, Samurai, Giant Robots, Giant Monsters, Horror, B Horror, Illustration, Weaponry, Voodoo, Pipes, Skulls, Special effects makeup, Wolves... more specific tho Punisher, Spawn, Berserk, Devil-Man, Fallout, Mad Max, Deadpool, Joker, Batman, Supernatural, UFC, Game of Thrones, LOTR, Star Wars, Night of the Living Dead, Deathgasm, Evil Dead 2, Mortal Kombat, Soul Caliber, Pacific Rim, Gundam Wing, Dragonball Z, Attack on Titan, The Walking Dead (both comic and show), Hellraiser, They Live, James Bond, Tombstone, Die Hard,, Rob Zombie, South Park, Amon Amarth...
