A LITTLE MORE THAN 2 WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SO FREAKING PUMPED UP FOR THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you tell that I am excited?
In the wake of all the new and exciting games, Fallout 4, Halo 5, Transformers: Devastation, Star Wars Battlefront, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3; there are 2 so far that have left me wanting.
I hate writing bad reviews. I really do. It's not like I enjoy this. However, when it comes to gaming, I expect a certain level of awesome. I have been gaming since the time of "PONG", "Intellivision" "Atari" and "Odyssey". I am the generation of growth in gaming. We grew and nurtured gaming. You young pup millenals will never know the challenge of playing a game where you only have 1, 2, or even 3 lives to beat the game...then*Poof* that's it. ***GAME OVER***
So to say I was excited for both of these games is an understatement. Let's start with Transformers.
I was really excited when I heard that this was coming out!
When I heard that the original voice actors from the 80's Transformers cartoon were to play their old roles once again, I was giddy. Elated even. The clips I saw, the fact that the programmers were using the original variations of the Transformers from the cartoon I grew up with had me so happy that I felt like I was in second grade again playing with my 'Soundwave' Transformer action figure and all his cassette tapes. (Yes. I actually used the belt clip and walked around with him on my hip. Still one of the coolest toys of all time. Just saying.)
So I pre-ordered the game and waited patiently. Once it was released I went to my local Gamestop where My friend and Manager Steph was all too happy to help me. She's really nice. (BTW, Gamestop; if you're reading this, she deserves a promotion or pay raise or something. She's awesome!) I get home and wait forever for the game to download and then I begin to play.
The Opening animations with the original cast from the 80's had me on the edge of my seat. Then the game play begins. The game is so linear it's disgusting. Point A to Point B to Point C....It drones on and on. The fighting and combat moves are what you would expect, maybe only a little bit cooler made so by the fact that it is 'Optimus Prime' you are controlling. after a few minutes, BOOM! BOSS FIGHT against 'Devastator'! Really? Right off the bat?
The animation and artistic value of the game is awesome! It looks like a comic book, or even maybe like you are controlling the cartoon from my childhood. However, the combat controls are cumbersome, you run out of 'energon' every 12 shots from your blaster; and you GET YOUR BUTT HANDED TO YOU religiously by the one toy that no kid could afford to buy when you were a kid.
I always loved 'Devastator' when I was young, but I hated him as well. I hated him because I could never afford him and the class bully had him and rubbed it in everyone's faces. Now here is 'Devastator' kicking my butt like it's his profession! I am a very seasoned gamer, dating back to the very early 80's. I don't suck at video games. Here I am getting owned by a cherished memory from my youth. Not really happy that I paid $59.99 plus tax for it.
If you like games that force you to go from A to B to C, this game is for you. I grew up with the side scrolling, linear games. I'm allowed to want more freedom. You young bucks don't know a dang thing about some 'Pitfall' on Atari 1600 frustrations. I paid my dues.
Maybe the Fallout and Elder Scrolls sagas spoiled me. Anyway, on to HALO 5: Guardians.
HALO 5: Guardians-
Now, I have been a longtime fan of the Halo series. Ever since Master Chief started whooping some butt against the Covenant and the Flood in Game 1. I have alwasy been a huge advocate and defender of the series, to the point that I even defended HALO 4, after the '343' take over. What? I kind of liked it. The graphics were cool, and the gameplay was pretty fun.
Now I was smart, and rented HALO 5 from Red Box, instead of aggravating my wife and dropping another $59.99 plus tax. Good thing I did. The CG cinematics are awesome, the storyline is not too bad, plus the only true redeeming component of the video game; 2 words... "NATHAN FILLION"! Yes, 'Malcolm Reynolds' himself resumes the role of 'Buck' and this time the programmers did a really amazing job of making the character LOOK like 'Nathan Fillion'.
If you have no idea who I am talking about, 'Nathan Fillion' is an AMAZING actor, who played 'Malcolm Reynolds' on 'Joss Wheadons' 'Firefly' and Serenity'; was 'Caleb' in 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Season 7; and plays the crime solving Murder Fiction Author ' Castle' on TV. Go watch his stuff, thank me later.
Other than that, the game is deplorable. The game play is'Ho-Hum' at best. I found myself bored after 30 minutes of game play. So I hop online to play. CAMPERS EVERYWHERE! Seriously, you camping trolls piss me off. You're like the coward who hides in the corner during a real battle and watches, as his buddy gets wasted.
If you're going to play the game, grow a set and join the fighting. I run into this crap when I play Airsoft @ The Battleground Airsoft arena in Pittsburgh. Why show up if you're never going to leave spawn? Anyway, an hour of online play and I'm done. I was bored and really unimpressed. Parents, you should hear the mouths on some of your offspring by the way. I was a Navy Corpsman assigned to the Marines; and the bile pouring out of your child's mouths made ME BLUSH!
So there it is. I am not a fan of either game. You can take it or leave it as you like. You think this is a scathing review? Wait till you see what I say about Call of Duty Black Ops III!

If there is one movie that I am eagerly waiting for that isn't "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"; THIS IS IT!
I have always been a Captain America fan. Ever since I was a kid. I was always able to relate to Steve Rogers, (pre-super soldier serum). Captain was always a role model for me. He was good for the sake of being good. I seriously feel that the world is missing that quality these days.
Even in the face of tyranny, Captain never breaks. Never waivers.
The trailer looks phenomenal, and I can't wait to take my son to see this movie! Plus , did you notice "Black Panther"?
I have been waiting to play this game for over a decade. Since the very first Fallout, I have been hooked. I have always been a fan of Dystopian Futures and Alternate History Fictions. Probably why I write that style of Fiction for my novels.
The eager anticipation was only sated last week when I bought my Fallout 4-XBox One 1TB system Bundle Pack! Yes, I only just got a next gen system. I'm a writer, not Donald Trump. Anyway, I couldn't get home fast enough. Then I had to wait close to an hour as the system updated. Then the game had to update. Then my controller had to update. "FINISH ALREADY SO I CAN PLAY THE DAMN GAME!"
"FINALLY!!! Wait, the game is still updating..." I was almost on the verge of a psychotic break, when like a crying baby I was soothed by a sweet lullaby. In this case the lullaby was the animated movies Bethesda did for all the "S.P.E.C.I.A.L." Perks. They were very entertaining I must say. Here is one now.
These are your attributes which depending on your level of; allow you to select better "PERKS" that help you in your game play. Lockpicking, Gun Smithing, Medic, etc...
I go through the intro and the beginning story line (No spoilers here, sorry) and I'm off and exploring the waste land. The graphics are AMAZING! The game play and controls are slightly different than "Fallout 3" and "Fallout: New Vegas", but all in all it is still very similar.
On Xbox One, the button to initiate your V.A.T.S. Combat system is the Left Bumper as opposed to the Right bumper. Took some getting use to, but now I have got the hang of it. It is so very exciting. The fact that I can have multiple sets of power armor, and trick them out however I feel like Is really AWESOME! This is my current set of T-51B Power Armor.
Yes. That's right. HOT ROD FLAMES! HELL YEAH! I also am starting my own power armor dealership, you might want to see the latest floor models at my store.
That's right gang. You can have multiple sets of upgradable power armor. I've got 8 so far, and I know where at least 2 more are. You can even have some of your companions operate them too. Obviously not "Codsworth"(Robot) or "Dogmeat"(dog) though. That would just be silly.
My biggest gripe with the game so far, would be the scavenging for parts. It's really a pain in the butt just trying to find aluminum, screws and oil. You need to scavenge to upgrade weapons, armor, power armor; and to build settlements. I haven't done too much questing for the main story line as to the fact that I have been busy hunting for power armor and leading the Commonwealth Militia the "Minutemen". Oops. Was that a spoiler? Here are some more pics from my game play.
All in all, the game is AMAZING! My wife is pissed cause I'm playing it all the time, and I'm sure my fans are chomping at the bit for me to finish editing my new fiction novel "War in the Backyard: 4 Judges".
Congrats Bethesda, The game is EPIC! Graphics are smooth, the terrain and scenery are beautiful, not brown or gray.
The ability for dialogue and plot developments are phenomenal.
It really reminds me of the choose your own adventure novels from when I was a kid.
The combat system still has the ability for iron sights down your weapon like New Vegas did, which was one of my favorite take aways from New Vegas.
The new Mirelurks and molerats are creepy as hell too. I love the fact that there are 'rankings' among some of the enemies. It kind feels D&D'esque that way. With Legendary and Rare creatures giving tougher fights and better rewards. It is definitely a very cool feature of the game.
Now, if you'll excuse me, "Preston Garvey" and I have some Ass to go Kick!

You might be engrossed in Halo 5 or Fallout 4 right now, but there is a game that might have escaped your notice. "Toy Soldiers: War Chest". Made by UBISOFT, this game is truly a hidden gem!
The concept is simple, Tower Defense/Real Time Strategy. Here is the down and dirty plot line. Using themed toys, you must quest through various battlefields and defend Your Toy Box. With all the various tower defense genre games available on your smart phone, I can see how this might be tedious and boring to some.
Trust me, it's not. Filled with sometimes dry, yet silly humor; there is hours of entertainment to be had. From World War I era toy soldiers, Space commando themed toys and even a "Rainbow Brite"-esque set of toys; you choose your commander and battle.
I haven't even gotten to the best part yet. When you buy the game, at least on Xbox 1 like I did; you get a free down load code to add other commanders, teams and levels to your system. This is where I am UBER GEEKED! G.I.Joe, COBRA, He-Man Masters of the Universe and Assassins Creed!!!!!
I am a child of the 80's, so this game has REALLY MADE MY WEEK! Of course I have been playing both G.I. Joe and COBRA! I have always been a huge fan! Here are some screen shots from some of my game play!
At only $29.99, you really have to give this game a shot! It is very reminiscent of "Army Men" from Playstation back in the day. So to UBISOFT, GREAT JOB! If you guys are looking to add some commanders as DLC here are my recommendations, "MASK" "EXO Squad" "Transformers" "Smurfs" (cause that would some funny stuff right there) and I doubt Disney would let their claws off of Star Wars, but I can dream. Anyway, GREAT JOB UBISOFT!
AVAILABLE on PS4, XBoxOne and PC
